877291 2010-04-17 13:14:00 Yes thank you Sweep.
With all the help I am now digesting I can see I am out of my depth, but also learning a lot.
To ryanjames.powell - thank you - I did as you suggested and find lots of errors, but always the same two. In the system log, just about every day I get two events showing together. One has the Event ID 2511; Described as "The server service was unable to recreate the share Shared Files because the directory C:\Documents and Settings\Trevor\Desktop\Shared Files no longer exists. Please run "net share Shared Files /delete" to delete the share, or recreate the directory C:\Documents and Settings\Trevor\Desktop\Shared Files."
Always with this is another entry showing Event ID 7026; described as "The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load:
Lbd"

877292 2010-04-17 13:28:00 It looks like that lbd error belongs to lavasoft adaware?? Is this installed?? Or if its uninstalled now, traces of it may still be in startup, or in the registry Speedy Gonzales (78)
877293 2010-04-17 13:30:00 Thank you - No I don't have Lavasoft now but used to some long time ago. Trevornchris (11918)
877294 2010-04-17 13:32:00 Do you know what hijackthis is?? Its below. It'll list whats on your system and whats in startup. You can post a log if you want, so we can see whats in it. And see whats in startup Speedy Gonzales (78)
877295 2010-04-18 01:08:00 Use this program to find out whats taking up all the space, its free:
http://windirstat.info/

Windows will just load a temp profile if there isn't enough space on the drive, hence why you had no favorites etc...

Now I can't remember exactly, but doesn't Windows sometimes create a default temporary profile for a user in place of their folder in Documents and Settings and then make a backup copy of the original folder? I think the key is, how do you restore the original, is it simply a matter of replacing C:\Documents and Settings\Trevor with the original folder?

Trevor - is there another copy of your user folder called something slightly different in C:\Documents and Settings?

877297 2010-04-18 10:08:00 According to this, if your profile has been replaced with a default one, system restore should be able to put it back:
