| 877281 | 2010-04-16 20:41:00 | I have uninstalled everything I can, like Google earth; Adobe Acrobat;Open Office; etc. and freed up 833Mb hoping by doing this e I'm running an NEC Powermate with 15Gb on drive C (the problem disk) and 283Gb drive E (hardly used). ? I would image C: onto another drive. Then reformat this drive to one partition or at least 2 equal or something. Then image c: back. You need another PC to do this or another drive. Leaving the drive as is. Uninstall every single application you have. Reinstall them Custom/Advanced mode to D: Go to your username in Windows Explorer, CUT the MyDocuments folder and PASTE it to d: This moves all your personal stuff to D: and updates the registry ect so Windows knows the new location. Once you have done that, C: should contain nothing at all except the O/S. From then on, install everything to D: |

| 877283 | 2010-04-16 23:16:00 | It would help if you could tell us about any events in the event logs that happened at the time you got the error about there not being enough memory to load your profile. Right-click My Computer and click Manage... In Computer Management expand Event Viewer, then expand Windows Logs. Check in the Application and System logs for errors at the time you had the problem. I just need exact wording of the error messages involved in order to research this problem as I have been unable to find the problem you are having by searching the internet with the information I have. I am sure there will be a setting somewhere to allow Windows to load your profile again instead of a temporary one as your original profile is still there. |

| 877284 | 2010-04-16 23:38:00 | From the original post, I would say the user Profile could be damaged as well, not allowing it to load fully. This would have been caused from the overfull drive. IF the profile has been damaged, there are ways to repair it One way (www.ehow.com) - but you need the space to move files about, and no one knows what other damage has been done. What Pctek suggested is what I would prob do as well. In fact back up any data NOW - as playing around with settings can cause you to lose the lot if something goes wrong. If this doesn't work due to other corruption, with all the data safe in another place you may have to reinstall windows to get it working correctly, then put all your data/programs back in. AND make the primary partition larger, esp if the current E drive is hardly used. |

Looking at the event logs would tell us whether it is damaged or what the reason was for Windows loading a temp profile. But yes, the easiest way may just be to either reinstall Windows or just create another user account and copy the files over from the old one. |

| 877287 | 2010-04-17 00:31:00 | I would repartition the hard drive into a more or less 50/50 split and then re-install the O/S and all programs. After that it will be relatively simple to restore backups or images which I would hope the OP has. |

Agree - and as we all know if you have been in this game long enough - by all means try to fix it, but dont speed hours flogging a dead horse. Sometimes its easier to save all data, and reinstall, at least that way you know its OK. |

| 877289 | 2010-04-17 12:17:00 | Ok - have opened disk management and am not sure how to describe what I see, except that it looks like my C and E drives are partitions whereas I thought I had separate disk drives (!!) . Both are shown as healthy . They are shown as HDD (C) and NEW VOL (E) All my work happens on (C) but it only has a capacity of 14 . 59Gb of which 1 . 51Gb is shown as free (It was completely full when everything went awol) and (E) has a capacity of 283 . 5Gb with 283 . 39 free space . File system is NTFS and the (C) drive shows healthy (system) with (E) healthy . I have found on the new abbreviated desktop that when I turn on the computer the Recycle Bin icon is down on the lower right corner of the screen - I can move it in line with the others but it returns next time to the wrong place . The thing is it wont open by clicking on it or RH clicking open . I have opened it through another method but it opens as Desktop with the desktop contents . . . not deleted items . There is definitely something weird here but am in danger of getting sidetracked off the bigger problem . I am only just working out how this forum works and have just found lots of helpful suggestions so will follow up on them and report back . |
