792224 2009-07-16 06:53:00 What are the risks of signing up for Facebook? Where you give your email address and date of birth to sign up. I'm thinking particularly of computer/family security risks here, and just wondering what other members' views are.

As always - TIA :)

792225 2009-07-16 06:59:00 I wouldnt think theres any real risk, its big enough to have proven that.

Just dont sign in and leave it logged in at an internet cafe, or post pics of your kids running around in a public place

There are risks either way. If you don't have an account anyone can make one for you and pretend to be you. That is if they know your Email and DOB I presume.

I made an account but I don't use it. In fact I actually use no social networking sites at all other than PressF1.

792227 2009-07-16 07:04:00 You've got more chance of getting hit by malware if youre not careful. Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter have all been hit by spammers and malware Speedy Gonzales (78)

Thanks for that - that's the sort of risk I'm looking for. I actually haven't used Facebook at all, but have now deactivated it. I think I understand that my details may still be floating around - is anyone able to confirm?

792231 2009-07-16 09:21:00 As a person who got the chance of choosing a shortlist of candidates, I strongly reccomend you don't slag off previous work places. Or, at least make your profiles private. the_bogan (9949)

That was what New Zealand Post were asking for and heaps heaps more in their disgraceful multipage questionaire they circulated a little while ago.
Anyone fool enough to answer is asking for what they get...............:)
