791888 2009-07-15 11:32:00 Is that what that Bump was here in Wellington -- watching TV and the Mrs starts panicking as the house creaked for a few seconds.

Edited: Dog looks up as if to say -- shut up woman - I'm sleeping LOL

791890 2009-07-15 15:14:00 We are getting reports of it being a 7.8. Are all youse guys OK?

A small Tsunami was also reported.

We saw this info (in the US) during our morning news broadcasts, and I think this was the first note of the tremor(s) for us. It's 07:21, July 15th here.

791891 2009-07-15 19:57:00 Didn't feel anything down here you sure it really happened. If a woman speaks and there is no one there to hear it did she really speak? gary67 (56)

Well, I know that if she actually says the word "nothing" - that it doesn't mean nothing - so I'm not sure...

:D

Yeah it was a pretty good one down South; house was creaking and I had to hold on to the doorframe to keep balanced . . . . . although that might've been due to SWMBO's death grip on my arm as much as the quake :o

Here in Wyndham we only noticed the 7.8 one. One of my cats got up 5 minutes before and started "hunting", I thought she'd seen a spider.
The others couldn't care less and remained sprawled in front of the fire.
It was enough to move the walls, a gentle rolling motion, like being on a boat.

For SurferJoe and others - the epicentre was in Fiordland, Dusky Sound to be precise, and there are no towns or houses there so no major damage.
