877784 2010-04-18 11:14:00 Rule 1 : NEVER update a BIOS on a flat battery ! And always connect the power. Is it the EEE 701/SD/XP?? Speedy Gonzales (78)
877785 2010-04-18 20:41:00 its a linux operating system. rocco (14290)
877786 2010-04-18 22:07:00 Do EEE PC's support Crashfree BIOS? Connect it to power, if it can still turn on put the CD it came with in the CD (does it have a CD)? . If it supports Crashfree BIOS, it should reflash it to the original BIOS Speedy Gonzales (78)
877787 2010-04-18 22:36:00 You'll probably have to send it in for repair, unless it supports some kind of automatic BIOS recovery like Crashfree as Speedy said Agent_24 (57)
877788 2010-04-18 23:31:00 maybe you might want to spend thirty seconds reading before doing one of the most dangerous things to a pc.

To be fair the manual makes bios upgrades look easy and fun, no warnings about power.

877789 2010-04-18 23:47:00 That's idiotic.

When I upgraded the BIOS on my laptop, the instructions had in big capital letters:

"MAKE SURE MAINS POWER IS PLUGGED IN BEFORE STARTING FLASH"

I plugged the adaptor into the laptop but not into the wall. But their program was clever enough to tell me "Adaptor is not plugged in! You MUST connect the adaptor before flashing can continue"

If Asus can't figure that out, well....

877790 2010-04-18 23:47:00 You should never update any BIOS when its not going by power. Because thats what can happen. And if you use ASUS liveupdate, its not a good idea to use it to update a BIOS either. It'll fail. (load the BIOS file from the menu), if you want to update the BIOS within windows. 877791 2010-04-18 23:52:00 I take it a step further and plug the deal into a UPS as well. About the only time I paranoic about power loss is when flashing a BIOS. Sweep (90)
