877583 2010-04-17 12:26:00 Hi.

I have a problem with my headset. The microphone and headphones work fine, but the headphones don't show in the sound devices list like it used to, and the quality is atrocious. It shows that I am listening to my speakers, which I tried setting to stereo speakers, from the 5.1 channel setting, with no difference.

Windows Media Player 12 may be the problem, but I've looked at all the settings, and there is nothing outta shape.

P.S.!! Under the speaker settings, it says: (view the attached picture)
L R Front panel 3.5mm Jack
I know that that isn't supposed to be there for a 5.1 channel speaker system!

I dunno what info to give software wise. Hardware is:

ASUS P5Q Motherboard (7.1 channel support)
Dick Smith Electronics Headset (branded as "Deluxe Bass Vibration Headset with Microphone") (plugged in front audio jack)
Cooler Master Elite 331 Case (HD Audio used)
Logitech X530 5.1 channel speakers

I'd REALLY appreciate help, cause Nickelback sounds way off in the distance compared to the very bad quality music :thanks

877585 2010-04-17 12:56:00 Whats the default under the playback tab? The front panel connection is for headphones

Is this Vista or Win7?

877586 2010-04-17 23:24:00 Try this -- Open the control Panel, go to Sound - in the window, right click a blank area, tick enable disabled devises / OK. Look around the tabs see if anything new shows up, right click and enable it if it does. wainuitech (129)
877587 2010-04-18 05:00:00 @ Speedy Gonzales - It is in Windows 7, and I have the speakers plugged in the back, and the headphones in the front. I think it is recognizing the speakers as part of the speakers for some reason, double Front Left and right. The default is the speakers, but they have always muted, and the headphones go to default. Now the headphones don't even show up!

I also forgot to mention that in Windows XP, which I have dual booted on, the sound is exactly like what it used to be like in Windows 7. Sounds great. Except... in XP, whenever I use my mic, it takes the output, and directs it straight to the input, and makes really horrible echoing noises. I muted my speakers, and by way of seeing the sound level still jumping with the echoing. Dunno if that has anything to do with the problem. Wierd, everything works, cause the mic is ok in 7, and the headphones ok in XP.

877588 2010-04-18 05:12:00 Windows 7 knows the diff between the front and the back when you plug something in. It probably doesnt like it, when you have both plugged in at the same time. Will the headphones appear, if you unplug the speakers? The echoing you're hearing is probably feedback from the mic Speedy Gonzales (78)
877589 2010-04-18 05:53:00 No difference whatsoever. I even tried restarting. Headphones still don't appear at all. Odd thing is though, is that it used to be fine. Don't think I changed any settings. raydan42 (13837)
877590 2010-04-18 06:12:00 I could check it with teamviewer if you want.. Its probably some settings thats wrong Speedy Gonzales (78)
