793181 2009-07-22 08:00:00 I was 3 months old, so don't remember much about it live...

And are you sure about Moonday July 20th PaulW? - as it was the 21st July in NZ when it happened...

Correct. I was a day out. I went to the Stardome Observatory here in AKL on Monday nite for the 40th celebrations and saw the same Auckland Star front page and as you say it was Mooday July 21. 1969

793182 2009-07-22 09:40:00 One night he and I went along to Bell Studios (in Dominion Road?) and saw one of the earliest TV transmissions in NZ. It was from one room to the next, but true TV none the less. Seemed so exciting then.

Well well well, I think I was there that night or one like it! I would have been about 12 and one of my sisters was appearing in a short play, I think it had an Egyptian theme, and we all went along to be in the audience. Bright lights and huge cameras, and I think it was 405 line too.

My father did the early advertising for Antone, which was taken over by Al Bell (by stealth I think), he has his first Bakelite radio cabinet and chassis tooled up to go straight after he took control. I don't think the original partners even saw it coming but anyway, we had some sort of in with Bell at that time.

Cheers

Yes they were 405 lines. One of the reasons they were no good after NZBS started 625 line transmission in 1960 just 9 years before the moon walk. You may be interested in the UK find.
