878289 2010-04-20 07:10:00 Any reason why SP2 isnt installed? It'll probably FIX a lot of things
I'm cautious - if it ain't broke don't fix it plus if I have to download the whole lot it will chew up a lot of my 1gb cap on Telstra - but may give it a try.

878290 2010-04-20 07:15:00 A screen being seen as a plug and play device somehow...?
How do I check that?

878291 2010-04-20 07:18:00 Try going into the power settings , look for action when closing lid ( or words to that effect) see if theres an option to make a sound as well (only a guess without seeing the setting).
Can't see anything...

878293 2010-04-20 20:58:00 Someone has suggested running sfc /scanno. Is this safe/advisable? tuiruru (12277)
878294 2010-04-20 21:21:00 Someone has suggested running sfc /scanno. Is this safe/advisable?Running sfc /scannow shouldn't do any harm, but doubt if it would fix it either. Something is triggering it when you close the lid.

IS there any other type of cards Eg: wireless PCMCIA network card plugged in, or anything running, web cams, bluetooth ?

Try disconnecting anything thats attached, Ethernet etc.

878295 2010-04-20 21:43:00 Nothing else "going on" except the mouse is plugged in and the wireless connection is up and running.

It also seems to me that the sounds are in the wrong order - "connecting" when the lid is closed, "disconnecting" when it is opened....?

878296 2010-04-21 00:15:00 Can you try something -- in the power options, where it says " when close lid" (or words to that effect) select "Do Nothing". I looked on my laptop and you can change the options when the lids closed.

Close then open the lid and see if it still "bonks".

878297 2010-04-21 00:35:00 Load up a live Linux CD, and close and open the lid.
Then run dmesg command and see if there's anything which might explain which device is triggering the events.

Unless event viewer in Windows can do the same thing...
