| 793160 | 2009-07-20 03:16:00 | Working as an apprentice in a radio repair shop, and pissed off because the only radio available was our own shop radio and to had to get within 2 feet to hear it because the boss was too bloody mean to let us put a new valve in it. After that I built a transistor radio to listen to instead, then he bawled me out one day for changing the batteries during 'work' time. The place flooded once, and myself and a colleague spent a weekend sitting in water chipping through concrete to make drains. He wouldn't pay but said "I'll see you right at Christmas". Came Christmas Eve, he worked us till 5pm then put one (1) bottle of beer on the table and said 'go to it boys.' If he had stood still for a few seconds more he would have had the suppository to end all suppositories, but that was in the days before people started doing that sort of thing to themselves as a recreational activity. R-sole is dead now, late and unlamented. Cheers Billy 8-{) |

However on the day itself, I was 9 and five sixths and remember listening to it on the radio. And Mum saved the copy of the Dominion (as it was) from the day after which had a huge section, dedicated to the event. Still got it somewhere... |

So people like that really were around. :) Yeah, there were, and when I handed in my notice to go and work for a decent employer he had the nerve to say he'd been going to give me a raise. This after keeping me on the bare legal minimum for 4 years! I wanted to buy a valve for the family radio (I could have just lifted one off the shelf, don't know why I didn't) but he wanted to charge me the same inflated prices he charged little old ladies and cripples so I went out and bought an equivalent from a wholesaler for a fraction of his price. Actually I had two bosses, 'Big Ar$ehole' and 'Little nice guy'. Every Wednesday the Ar$ehole would go to Golf at 12:00 and after about half an hour or so, just long enough to be sure the P&$#@ wasn't coming back for something he'd forgotten, the little nice guy would say "I'm just going out to get a haircut boys" (he was very handicapped in the cranial coverage region, so a trim every week would have been pruning his brain after a month or so) then he'd jump in his car and be off, never to return that day. He must have had a fancy woman somewhere and we were more than once tempted to follow him and see where he went but he was too nice to do that to and we never let on to the Ar$ehole that he buggered off every Wednesday himself. Never had a boss as bad as that ever again, until I got married of course, but she came right soon enough! Cheers Billy 8-{) |

I bought two souvenir magazines (still have them). Must put one on Zillion - not Trademe. |

It's been left to the print, radio and pay TV to do it. I guess it says how dumbed down TV is in this country these days.. I don't count the movie Apollo 13 last Saturday on C3 as celebrating the success of the Apollo missions.. | paulw (1826) | ||
