793071 2009-07-20 03:57:00 I was reading on the Te Papa site you can take photos as long as you don't use a flash, I wonder why.
:)

Think it's just an annoyance thing for other people, if someones trying to read or look at something and there is camera flashes going off left right and center I imagine that could get a little frustrating.

Generally speaking in museums, it's because the flash can degrade the exhibits; certainly in the Guggenheim and New York Metropolitan Museum of Art they had security guards everyone bollocking people for using flashes . . . . it was hilarious to watch hoardes of tourists who no-speakitty-engrish flashing all over the show . . . . . . camera's that is .

793073 2009-07-20 04:50:00 I remember doing after school work in a museum archives when I was at high school - one of the jobs I had was to transcribe old letters by hand as photocopying them exposed them to several months of normal room lighting in one pass of the light on the photocopier. Probably easiest for the museum just to say no to all flash photography. Deane F (8204)
793074 2009-08-02 22:11:00 I went in the weekend as I was in Wellington on business - loved being up close to the McLaren MP24-21 and the MP4/4, the Ferrari F2004 and the Williams FW14B . Amazing machinery!

Plus there were a few of the older machines: Lotus, Cooper Brabham and a McLaren M7A . Great display of the history of F1 .

Just a pity (understandable though) that it was "no touchee" . . .

I have some relatively lo-res photos I can post here if there is anyone who would like to get a glimpse . . . .
