877826 2010-04-18 22:19:00 I'm currently using the Thomson TG585v7 that Telecom has provided me for free with the big time broadband . I've been having problems with it lately and thinking of changing it (probably sometime this week) .

During the day, my internet disconnects and the router restarts itself (I'm not sure if it's Telecom's fault or the router but it can be a hassle .

I read Chilling Silence's blog on the "right router" and recommended the NetComm NB6Plus4Wn and this is a question to Chilling Silence or anyone else if this is still a fast and reliable router .

I might go to PB Tech sometime this week and buy it as it is a decent price for a router . The one's I saw at JB Hi Fi, DSE etc are way overpriced!!

Cheers

877827 2010-04-18 22:47:00 It's a brilliant router, and PB have a good price on it. You can't go wrong. wratterus (105)

Thanks for the quick reply . When Telecom stated that the Thomson router was worth $199, I was like :stare:

Any more reviews to the NETCOMM NB6PLUS4Wn Router would be helpful .

I'll also let you guys know how it goes .

877829 2010-04-18 22:54:00 Anyone here (and that's quite a few people) who own one will tell you the same thing. And yeah, $199 for that thompson is a rip! :badpc: wratterus (105)
877830 2010-04-18 23:16:00 It wasn't a terribly well known router (from what I can gather) just 6 months ago, but after a bit of recommendations here others seem to have cottoned on to the router and now there are many happy people out there with it. Aside from the fact it's got N-Wireless, it's great because it's far more reliable than any of the other routers that ISP's give away, and it's certainly the most reliable N-Router I've seen (Personally ...).

I sold my Thomson on TradeMe for $70, felt bad because even at that price I got this niggling sense I was ripping the person off :-/

877831 2010-04-19 00:51:00 With the NETCOMM NB6PLUS4Wn Router, will it make a difference to my connection speed?

PB Tech state that the router is "a powerful ADSL2+ router capable of delivering a high speed broadband Internet connection. It says that it is a fully featured 300Mbps wireless router.

Will I be limited to 54Mb/s or should it increase and is the Thomson TG585v7 a G or N Wireless?

877832 2010-04-19 02:23:00 The netcomm is Wireless N - so if you have Wireless N devices, you will notice a speed increase when working over the network. Weather the router you choose has wireless N or not makes no difference to ADSL speed, altho the netcomm is good in this area too. wratterus (105)
877833 2010-04-19 02:26:00 It's worth noting that in my experiences when I've test (twice now) vs a TG585v7 that the sync speed has increased by up to 2m/bit (From 12 -> 16m/bit) when using the NetComm NB6Plus4Wn router.

Apparently this is due to the chipsets they use for ADSL, though YMMV and I wouldn't take that as an "always assumed" ...

877834 2010-04-19 21:41:00 I checked on my laptop and it says on device manager that I have a Atheros Wireless LAN 802.11a⁄b⁄g⁄n.

So will I be able to use the full functionality of N-Wireless?

877835 2010-04-19 22:57:00 Yes, on 2.4GHz. wratterus (105)
