877811 2010-04-18 21:45:00 For some reason am having problems opening downloaded software files – the file is called “unconfirmed file” and the file type is “download file” but click to open and get “windows cannot open this file”. This is even from the PC World DVD!
W7 64 Bit. What is going on here?! Thanks

877814 2010-04-18 23:25:00 This is just a guess, as I haven't seen an app that behaves like this, but:

It sounds like an antivirus/antispyware application is intercepting your internet downloads & waiting for some sort of approval before releasing them.

877815 2010-04-18 23:27:00 But why would it do it from a DVD? Can you install any files at all tho? Speedy Gonzales (78)

The PCW DVD's set everything up as HTML screens, so the browser downloads everything by default.

Can you switch browsers & will it work then? If you don't have a different browser installed, you can open up Explorer (Win+E) & browse the DVD you should be able to find the Chrome/FF/Opera installers easily enough.
