877769 2010-04-18 09:22:00 Hi, is there a way to compress an ISO file or split it in 2 parts? I have an image of windows 7 but its too big to fit a normal SD card. I need it to be in the SD card since the laptop I want to install windows 7 only boots from an SD card, the CD drive is external and its not working. Thanks in advance! JOYBEBA6679 (10686)
877770 2010-04-18 09:29:00 You'll have to get a bigger sd / memory card. Only thing is, the card reader may have to support bigger memory cards (some can only recognise cards under 4 GB) Speedy Gonzales (78)
877771 2010-04-18 09:45:00 Well yes, thats the problem, it only reads SD cards up to 2GB, does not recognize SDHC cards. JOYBEBA6679 (10686)
877772 2010-04-18 09:51:00 Hmm thats going to be a prob then. Because you cant boot from an ISO anyway. Unless you burn it to a cd, or use some kind of virtual cd program, then mount it, then boot from it. Which may work

Try Magicdisc (www.magiciso.com). Its free. Install it on the laptop. If the ISO is on this laptop, run Magicdisc, mount the ISO, then run the setup file.

It may or may not work (altho it may also format your hdd). So, if you want to keep anything, copy it to something. Also if you want to keep this ISO, you better copy it to something, before you mount / run it. Is this laptop connected to a LAN / network??

877774 2010-04-18 10:01:00 Try Magicdisc. I've just posted the link. Speedy Gonzales (78)
877775 2010-04-18 11:26:00 Tried a USB drive, you can install W7 quite happily from one, just have to set it to boot from that first in the BIOS, only thing you have to do is on the first reboot, remove the USB drive other wise it will boot from it instead of the HDD wainuitech (129)
877776 2010-04-19 00:06:00 You'll need to get a USB stick as wainuitech suggested or possibly try another external DVD drive - borrow one if you can, to make sure it works.
Remember to change the boot sequence in the BIOS so the USB stick/DVD drive is first.

The Win7 DVD can't be split easily into smaller chunks due to all the files being stored in a Windows Imaging File (.wim).

MagicIso won't work because Windows setup will reboot your current OS and won't be able to see the ISO to continue.
