879125 2010-04-22 20:36:00 I had a clean install of W7 done about 5 months ago and gotta admit love the new OS...BUT:
1. W7 does not have drivers for MS KB, mouse and webcam (could not find the, on MS website) etc and

2. Its own firewall will not allow updates....I have emailed the MS help desk as I did not find a solution on their website, and I'm still waiting for a response.
It'll probably arrive the day after I switch to....Mac (gasp!)

As always, you are my go to guys....

Thanks

879126 2010-04-22 22:01:00 Whats the model of the kb, mouse (if they dont have any special featrures, the drivers Win7 install will work),and cam?? If theyre all MS, they'll have drivers on the site Speedy Gonzales (78)
879127 2010-04-23 21:26:00 All those are MS products which is why this is so very frustrating. The KB does have shortcut keys which do make my life easier. The webcam was not recognized at all so I gave up on it and gifted it to a friend who I knew would give it the love and attention I couldn't...:crying

The KB model is Microsoft Natural Wireless Ergonomic keyboard 7000 and the attendant mouse also model 7000.

As I said I can't get to the MS update page to download the W7 drivers for this and installing from my original driver CD is not allowed by the OS.:angry

879129 2010-04-23 21:39:00 Just click on allow when the firewall message comes up.

879130 2010-04-24 01:07:00 Why don't you take it back to the people who installed W7 for you and make them finish the job (obviously haven't restored it to fully operating condition).

2. Its own firewall will not allow updates...
This is highly unlikely (that it would block windows updates) unless you've deliberately set it to do so; you're not confusing this with UAC (User Account Control), are you?

installing from my original driver CD is not allowed
More likely there is no W7 drivers on that disk.

Go to Control Panel>Action Center and check Windows Updating is set to automatic.

Perhaps Speedy may help you sort this out with Teamviewer ;)

879131 2010-04-24 01:12:00 If the files on the CD wont install, theyre probably not compatible with the version of windows 7 you've installed Speedy Gonzales (78)
879132 2010-04-24 03:30:00 Yes, Microsoft just badge that stuff. PENTIUM (426)
879133 2010-04-24 03:33:00 The drivers will almost certainly be installed in Win 7 but the intellimouse/intellitype software will not be. Used for customising the mouse/keyboard.

Just my 2 cents worth.

Compared to what ??

A basic install could have been done along with the drivers, BUT as in often the case people dont tell you what other hardware was attached, printers, Non basic keyboard/mouse, Web Cams.

Unless the person who done the install actually took the PC back, then they wouldn't know.

Most of the time the devices also need to be available to install the software correctly, so unless the printer, Cam etc were all taken to the shop then they couldn't be installed and checked. Tell the customer to bring in every thing that was attached and they wont, or if they do you have a "pile" of extra devices laying about, most people only bring in the PC.

Theres been countless times thats happened to me - taken a PC back after a reinstall, then spend another hour or so hunting for or downloading software that people dont have, to install devices that conveniently were forgotten to be mentioned.
