878598 2010-04-20 18:36:00 i want to setup multiple unlimited telecom adsl2 connections using a pfsense box although im open to using other software if required.

what are the ins and outs of this as far as getting the connections from telecom and setting them up on my hardware?

im setting up a network for a 7 bedroom house, i want to make sure the connection(s) can handle anything we throw at it.

low latency would be nice but i understand there may be a drop due to added overhead

878599 2010-04-20 20:53:00 You realise you're only going to get load balancing across the two connections, not full connection teaming (as I don't believe Telecom - or any NZ ISP? - support this), yes? inphinity (7274)
878600 2010-04-20 21:53:00 A few things come to mind.
1) Look into Untangle, it's cool stuff
2) Why two Big Time connections? Will you be using more than say 50GB of data a month?
3) If you go to telecomwholesale.co.nz/maps do you find your address will get ADSL2+, and if-so from an exchange or from a cabinet?

Just so long as you're aware that when using the likes of Big Time, you're not likely to get the international speeds as you would if you were on, say, a vanilla un-managed Telecom / Orcon connection.

For example, I usually sync at 4m/bit, but the last fortnight I've only been getting 100KB/sec internationally (Yes, I've lodged a complaint and Telecom have acknowledged that the issue is their end, not mine). I previously got 400KB/sec after my QoS.
My parents who are just down the road on an Orcon Silver+ connection sync at 16m/bit and regularly download at those speeds internationally.

I guess I'm asking is "What do you plan on doing with this?". If you're just doing gaming, it's a waste. If you're doing huge insane volumes, then it may be worthwhile.

Hope this helps get you thinking

Cheers
