794468 2009-07-23 22:46:00 Yeah I guess the SPCA?

I too have been in the same problem .. The guide you through certain folders to show you some other "documents" they want backed up, and along the way is a folder set to Thumbnail view ... most of the time you just get sheepish looks from them :p I did have one fella once who was quite proud when that popped up, he says to me "Look there son, that's my wife half nude, quite the looker ain't she!"
I declined to comment, just smiled and carried on backing up this gentlemans files ... :-/

Reminds me of this:

Funny, with my customers they tend to go all red in the face and try to hide the screen from me..........:D

794470 2009-07-24 02:00:00 I did have one fella once who was quite proud when that popped up,

I replaced a pc for one of the customers and she wanted me to copy all of her docs and "especially" IE favorites and I said to her.. yes ma'am. She smiled and said to me the reason for IE favorites was that her husband had all of his favorite porn sites on there and she didn't want him to lose it. :stare:... I just smiled and said that it will be done.... I didn't even look at her when I said that.

But regarding the issue here, I think its people like Computer Repair cowboys that give a bad name to other IT guys who do their job ethically.

794471 2009-07-24 02:02:00 @ Pctek ---- prob because you are a woman they get all embarrassed.

Mind you Something always happens that will leave a person gob smacked

One lady customer a few years ago who is a "Real Hard Case" - after reinstalling her PC,when I took it back I said ( as I normally Do) every thing is back as close to where it was originally --

She opened the document's to check. Then the Pictures folder.
She asked if I could advice on how to dump off any old pictures, so she could clean out the trash so to speak. Told her how to do it.

I started writing out the invoice.-------

So she starts looking through - she came across one folder that looked out of place ( she asked what it was) so I glanced around ??? - she opens it and  web cam pictures of her topless.

Quick as a flash she says -- Sh!t forgot about those -- Hmmm they were taken before I had kids.

Errrrrrrrrr --- Speechless -- what the hell do you say

794473 2009-07-24 09:58:00 I remember years ago back when I lived in Auckland, must have been when Win 95 was the current OS.
Bought my PC from PC Direct when they were still around, and took it back into them a while later for an upgrade of some sort (I was fairly new to PC's then and had no idea how to upgrade anything myself).

Got it back, and noticed through it must have been the recent documents list, they had been looking at my documents and pictures. Letters, holiday pictures, etc.
There was nothing dodgy there, but I was annoyed as hell they had been looking through my documents and opening them, there was no reason they needed to do that for the upgrade.
Complained to their Manager and no-one ever replied to me! Still makes me angry even now when I think about it!

794475 2009-09-06 21:39:00 I got a call from a very irate customer who was complaining that the homepage of our site came up with a porn site.

I calmly explained the possible causes, and tactfully explained that it was evident that "someone" in her household had "accidently" clicked on a dubious link :

Not necessarily. You can can redirections to smut from malware other than someone deliberately looking for it.

794476 2009-09-06 22:21:00 I read 40% of computer use in S Korea is to porn sites, I guess it wouldn't quite be as bad here maybe 30%? but I dont really know.
I have told my boy if I catch him on a porn site his computer will get thrown through the window and he will have to pay for the window
