| 878494 | 2010-04-21 02:13:00 | If you get UPS, only put your ADSL modem, network switch (If applicable) and your main PC on it. Don't put the monitor on it and don't go putting other things on it like a home theatre system, cordless phones etc. The motion sensing in Go1984 is a definite plus, I had it automatically email me and ftp upload the images to my webserver (private) on motion detection, very useful :D |

| 878495 | 2010-04-21 02:53:00 | Just a trial -- I tried all the web apps so far mentioned apart from Go1984. Out of the lot, the Vitamin D was the best - pictures were crystal clear and emailed to my gmail account instantly. (once I got the mail working, the box where you fill out the details leave the user name and password blank). I set up a web cam in the workshop aimed at the door, by the time I walked out and inside ( a whole 10 seconds) there was 5 Pictures of me leaving, on going back in the workshop - you hear the warning I opted for - "person detected Recording Video" and snap shots waiting at Gmail ;) |

| 878496 | 2010-04-21 03:23:00 | Hi BM :groan: Don't like relays around sensitive electronic gear like computers etc because of contact bounce (www.elexp.com). In addition, while the time lag (www.audioenglish.net)is in human terms small, it may effect the computers performance. Here's a better and cheaper idea. Get to the crappy little battery inside the UPS. This is the weak point anyway. Now install, (bolt or solder, insulate if required), decent size cables from the battery connections to outside the case. Red cable to the Positive and Black to the Negative. Leave the existing battery connected. Connect your car battery, (refer to car battery disconnection thread for some great tips), to the new leads. Again, Red cable to the Positive and Black to the Negative. What you've just done is extended the running time of the UPS by a large amount. Plus your car battery will be fully charged for your return. You might be able to get a faulty UPS off Trademe, cheap. Usually, the electronics are ok but the stupid little battery craps out. Hope this helps. BURNZEE |

| 878498 | 2010-04-21 03:39:00 | Hi Wainui Tech Yep, while I've been using Vitamin D for sometime now, unfortunately the free multiple camera version ran out in last February. Still, like you, since this thread started, I decided to do a trial. Result, I'll stick with Vitamin D. What I like is the selected Hot Zone and Invisible Barrier features. Also the easy way to locate the scene required without hours of reviewing. Setting up the email was fairly easy once you locate the STMP for gmail. Just for other Users who have a Gmail account it is: smtp.gmail.com BURNZEE |

| 878499 | 2010-04-21 03:52:00 | Now youre talking Burnzee. :) I couldnt work out the use for a UPS that was only good for 30-40mins. Take that long to find a faultman. ;) The only UPSs Ive encountered were called No Breaks and were a very large 3 phase motor (cant remember the HP) spinning a 10 ton flywheel which in turn spun a 600amp generator which was connected to a large diesel through a magnetic clutch. When the power failed the flywheel kept the Generator spinning until the diesel fired up and got up to revs and then the diesel took over. Not quite whats required in my office. |

A computer UPS is not designed to keep a PC going for a long time, only to cut in if a power cut or dirty power. They are meant to be so if the power goes off, it gives you enough time to save all your work, and shut down the PC normally instead of a sudden crash. |

You are absolutely right, Wainui Tech but hell haven't yah heard of modding .. :D BM, My Man, with all this talk of relays, 3 phase motors, generators, flywheels and the like, you have either got a electro-mechanical fixation or a techilogical gap to bridge or both!! Hey, that's an OR GATE!! (www.ee.surrey.ac.uk) :groan: :D ;) BURNZEE |
