Just get the eee 900 with 20gb SSD model(should be enough for your needs) then use a the SD card as a transferal method to your method.

Or-Better yet, if you are near internet access, use something like Syncplicity, SugarSync or Dropbox to sycn your files if they aren't too big.

Or, when you go home sync using syncback SE over your LAN

Goodluck finding stock of this as its linux. stop bringing those into the country a while ago.

Also if you want ease of typing then you are better going for a Eee PC with 10" screen such as 1000H, 1002HA, 1000HA.
unless you dont mind a smaller screen size then you can get the 904ha or 900ha.

the 9" models had a much smalle keyboard size and isnt the best for typing for most people, where as the Eee's using the 10" chassis have about 92% keyboard size which is a lot better.
