880163 2010-04-26 09:50:00 Hi all

My Win 7 desktop PC is having a weird problem accessing the Internet. When I power it up, I get a yellow ! network icon in the system tray (indicating no Internet access). When I open up FF, I indeed have no internet access. I have LAN access to other machines on my network at this point.

Thing is, I reboot and sometimes it'll come back. I have a USB WLAN card that I use as backup - going through this always works fine, even when the cable won't.

I have a cheap DSE 1Gbps PCI NIC in the PC and a Belkin wireless-G router and WLAN card. The modem is the stock Telecom one, a Thomson ST5x6v6.

Any ideas?

880164 2010-04-26 09:55:00 Do you wait a few secs for it to show there's net access?? Sometimes, it can take 10-15 secs for it to work. Right mouse on the icon and check for probs. See what it says. Does the desktop have an onboard NIC as well? Speedy Gonzales (78)

Yes I wait a good new minutes for it to change. Normally it's instant and the ! doesn't even show.

Done that, says Check your modem. I know this is OK b/c I can access it over wireless.

Yes it has an onboard NIC. I've disabled it in the BIOS as it causes my machine to crash.
