796700 2009-07-30 23:44:00 Over in Europe you can party till the sun comes up - NZ's clubs don't exactly stay open all hours at the moment, but if the closing time was made even earlier, we would get a reputation as a 'granny nation' and I'm sure it would impact on young tourists holidays or OE decisions. wratterus (105)

It's, yet again, a case of a handful of drunken drongos ruining it for the rest of us . . . . . I really don't think closing the bars earlier will make the slightest bit of difference, as they'll just swill it down faster like you say .

Those who like to go down the local for a few quiets will still do so responsibly, and those who like to go out to get smashed, and then get into a punch up will also continue to do so .

Its the ones that get drunk and aggressive that they should aim at. Not responsible drinkers just wanting to have a good time.
Bring back the laws which said you cannot be drunk in a public place and bring in one against foul language and ENFORCE them like crazy.
But I do think the drinking age should not have been lowered to 18 and that raising it back to 20 would be good. Or once again really enforce the age of 18 and bring in heavy penalties for drinkers who are under 18.
And don't put the price up so that us older ones get penalised !
And start a pr campaign that says binge drinking is not OK.

796703 2009-07-31 00:43:00 I have to say I'm getting tired of groups calling for changes that effect all due to actions of the few.
When will we get a governments to tackle the causes instead of looking to kneejerking for solutions to the symptoms

Pretty sure this is the sort of thing people were accusing the previous government of; maybe National are truly a centre-right government? :D
