| 879785 | 2010-05-13 04:45:00 | Just to let you know that I've done the upgrade. The board I used was the one linked above by Battleneter2, as is the CPU. I chucked 4gig of RAM at it with the intention of perhaps throwing a couple more in at some point, but it's enough for now. I'll grab an ATI card in a month or so, at the moment it's bubbling along with the old nVidia 8800GTS 640. I popped a ProlimaTech Megahalems revB cooler on (I suspect this is actually an Arctic Cooling brand). The CPU temp has hardly moved above 30c with the 120mm fan ticking over between 400-600rpm, so I'll probably remove it altogether shortly, though it's a nice quiet unit. So, I'm very happy with the upgrade. Thanks very much for your interest and help. :thumbs: |
