880068 2010-04-26 07:44:00 I want to be able to use the Insert key just like the good old days to overwrite text, it works in Open Office but not in Notepad, does anyone know if there's a way to make it work? kettles (14332)
880069 2010-04-26 07:50:00 I don't think it's possible, I don't think Notepad supports overwrite function... Agent_24 (57)
880070 2010-04-26 08:59:00 Download the free version of NoteTab from www.notetab.com and run it - click on "Help" then "replace MSnotepad".

It will do what you want and a LOT more.

You won't regret it.

880073 2010-04-26 10:18:00 Info here (forums.techguy.org)

It is not that they do not support the INSERT key, it is that they do not support the OVERTYPE mode, which is a feature of upper level editors; not simple editors like Notepad.

When I use MS Windows I replace Notepad with Notepad++ - never been concerned with typeover but according to this (notepad-plus.sourceforge.net) it is supported. Notepad++ is what MS should have done to Notepad!
