880000 2010-04-26 03:21:00 Hi Guys :)
My friend has a minidv tape handicam that she likes.
She needs a laptop and of course minidv needs firewire and yes, of course, it is now not used.
Nor are the PCMCIA slots included so a card addition is not happening.
Dang.
The budget is only $1k :D
Any thoughts on a laptop that will solve this ?
You are going to say get a HD cam aren't you ? ;)
thanks
Pete

880001 2010-04-26 03:39:00 You'd have to look to up the budget to $1300 or so for something like the Pavilion dv6-2109AX to get a laptop with built-in FireWire.

Or get a laptop with an expresscard slot (like the dv6-1222AX) and get an expresscard FireWire adapter.

Or else, maybe you can find a USB/Firewire adapter second hand somewhere (I think Pixela were the only company who ever made them, and haven't done so for a while).

880003 2010-04-26 07:42:00 Just get one of these - www.trademe.co.nz

Supposedly cards with the Texas Instruments chipset are more reliable with some devices (in my case a firewire audio interface)
