797087 2009-08-01 03:02:00 Tax payers forking out good money for Billy boy to stay in his own home to the tune of $23,763 over six months.
Things are starting to look as bad as the pollies in England.

As my Father used to say:

“The only bastard that ever entered Parliament with honest intentions was Guy Fawkes!”

Amen to that. I'm just surprised that any one is surprised at such relevations. Remember the fat man who ran up such enormous taxi fares up north - rewarded with appointment to High Commissioner in London. Bigger trough. They all have their nose in the trough.

797090 2009-08-01 04:44:00 I don't think Bill English deserves too much blame for this. He's simply taking the maximum he is entitled to, which most people in this world do.

It's better to look to the laws that allow compensation for living in a house you or an associated person control (eg perhaps allow a significantly reduce level of payments for a minister living in a house he, his wife, or his trust owns).

Few people will willingly refuse money they're entitled to because they think they perhaps shouldn't be. That's not to say that it's totally 100% right for him to claim the money, but it's certainly not 100% wrong either.

That fat man also ran up via the tax payer $14,000 on wine while he was High Commissioner as well as that $21,000 on taxis

797092 2009-08-01 05:42:00 The waste that goes on with public servants and that lot doesn't bear looking at,countless millions down the gurgler.

And not a thing one can do about it.

A classic that one. :groan:

To say that is the tip of the iceberg is the understatement of the year.

Lets start by halving the number of politicians, and then start cutting back on the expenses of those that remain.

797096 2009-08-01 07:05:00 Its trivial. If taxpayers were asked, MPs would be paid nothing. But we'd still expect them to work.

A far bigger issue is the social welfare budget for NZ - $16 billion per year. Its beyond what we can afford.
