Hey my mate has given me his T40 to look at, when you start the laptop after a while the screen will go black before you even get past the xp loading screen. Once I was able to able to load the diagnostic test and tested the system board everything passed. Any ideas? |

Will last known god config, or safe mode work? Was or is SP3 on it? |

Does not get that far most of the time. I also dont think it is xp, it went black screen even when running the diagnostic before xp had even loaded |

Probably the back light or the inverter for it. Shine a bright light at the black screen and if you look carefully you should be able to see the display.
Also have you tried plugging in an external screen? |

have tried external screen. If it was the inverter would I see anything at startup? |
