| 798860 | 2009-08-06 21:14:00 | My friend had her website "audited". One of the issues highlighted was that it is illegal to accept credit card payments directly on her website, you must go through a third party authorised to accept credit card payments. Excuse me, have I missed something. Has my head been in the sand too long. Anyone care to comment... humourous comments the better :D |

| 798861 | 2009-08-06 21:30:00 | The only issue I can see about not going through an authorisation service is that there would be no guarantee that the transaction would be honoured by the card issuer... Your friend would still have to bank the credit card transactions - that's when the authorisation process would happen - but there may be some time passing between the transaction and the authorisation, which might mean the card-holder has no credit available, which means, if your friend has despatched the goods, she will be out of pocket. An authorisation service will go directly to the card issuer and the checks on available credit and card status are done electronically. |

Illegal or just not the way her Bank prefers to operate Merchant accounts? The BNZ has provision for low volume "card not present" transactions so I doubt that the Govt is involved . |

It sounds like it's either just bad practice, or may be against a specific bank's policies. |

| 798867 | 2009-08-07 03:48:00 | "Illegal" sounds like a more frisky incentive to someone than saying a practice is "disparaged". Especially if you are on a tight sales quota for "Value added services" to your clients. | R2x1 (4628) | ||

It is to plant the seed to think that she does need to use an "authorised agent". DPS was suggested... I have nothing against DPS, I have used them for another site. |
