798898 2009-08-06 17:51:00 A news story here that looks all prim and proper - but the facts are not what they seem .

I present the story first, and then I'll add little personal insight:

HEMET, Calif . -- Investigators are trying to find the driver responsible for a hit-and-run crash that claimed three lives near Hemet . The crash happened on June 2 along Highway 74 and officials say they have new information in the case .

"I just wish they would turn themselves in and do the right thing," said Delisa Williams, the mother of one of the hit-and-run victims . "It's killing me, it's killing me . I'm dying inside . I like actually died that day of the car accident . "

Williams's 11-year-old daughter, Zaria, was killed in a six-car wreck caused by a hit-and-run driver . Williams's cousin, Cedric Page, also died in the crash .

"I haven't been able to go back to work, I haven't been able to do anything, because all I can think about is Zaria and Cedric," said Williams .

No arrests have been made, but the California Highway Patrol says the investigation has taken a turn . Back in June, they believed the hit-and-run suspect was driving a black Honda or Acura . However, they now think it might be someone else . They're waiting for paint work to get back from the Department of Justice to determine what kind of car they (sic) suspect is driving .

Meanwhile, Williams hopes the suspect turns himself in .

"We just don't know what happened and why it happened . And I guess if you know, please just do the right thing . Do the right thing for Zaria . My 11-year-old didn't deserve to die," said Williams .

Williams held a memorial car wash three weeks ago to raise money for a reward, but it will take a tip from the public to solve the crime .

Anyone with information is asked to call the CHP at (951) 769-2000 .

OK - got it?

Here's what happened:

A guy (driving a Grey MAZDA RX with a fart-can) was trying to get the attention of a good-looking young girl in her vehicle and as he was rather distracted, he accidentally bumped into her vehicle . No big problem and no real damage done, just a minor fender wrinkle .

Here comes the good part: The idiot girl STOPS in the middle of a high-speed lane and gets out to survey the damage done in the accident .

Whilst blocking the lane - an old fart driving a Volvo see the stopped vehicle in his lane just ahead and instead of stopping by slamming on his brakes - HE CHANGES LANES INTO OPPOSING TRAFFIC - hitting another vehicle that was proceeding legally in the opposite direction .

People were killed and 6-cars were finally involved in the accident . There was a hit-and-run accident caused by the RX, but by no means did it foment the carnage that resulted .

Now - using that famous NZ-intellect here ------

WHO CAUSED THE DEATHS?

There are several players here:

1) The guy in the RX who was trying to cop a look at a cute babe .
2) The sto-o-o-pid (blonde?) girl who stops on a highway that travels at 60MPH .
3) The old fart who ignores all logic and law by changing lanes to avoid causing a rear-end collision .
4) Simpering idiots who believe that someone else was responsible for the deaths .

I happened upon the accident as it was still spinning to a stop - I was on the same side of the road that the Antique-driver of the Volvo steered into, causing me to have to evade flying car parts that were still in the air .

The old farthead was sitting there, gazing at his airbag and didn't even notice that he was facing East in a West-bound lane . If I had a hammer, I don't think the brain-dead Volvo driver would have noticed me playing it on him anyway . His young passenger, by the way, was one of the fatalities .

They have the person responsible, they just don't seem to want to do anything about it .

§22107 . No person shall turn a vehicle from a direct course or move right or left upon a roadway until such movement can be made with reasonable safety and then only after the giving of an appropriate signal in the manner provided in this chapter in the event any other vehicle may be affected by the movement .

Amended Ch . 1996, Stats . 1959 . Effective September 18, 1959 .

798899 2009-08-06 19:40:00 OK Joe, I will try to give you a definitive answer as it would be handled here in NZ. In the following order...

1. Check on the ethnic origins of all the people involved.
2. Check to see if there is a clause in the Treaty covering this sort of happening.
3. Make decision based on 1 & 2

798901 2009-08-06 21:42:00 The answer here is obvious.

When I was a motorcycle courier in London back in the 80's, it was well-known and accepted that drivers of Volvos were the worst on the road (from what I have seen lately, this hasn't changed significantly in the intervening 25 years).

This was (is?) due to the fact that Volvo tried to make their cars as safe as possible, thereby insulating the drivers of their vehicles from the rest of the traffic world.

Safely cocooned in their metal boxes(to which they bore a striking resemblance), they happily drove with no consideration to anyone else on the road nor any consideration of traffic rules, secure in the knowledge that their personal safety was not at risk.

Therefore, I posit that the driver of the Volvo was primarily at fault, although the idiot who stopped on the highway was a contributing factor.

The girl did! by being good looking :p

If she had not been good looking, than the guy in the RX7 would not have tried to get her attention and in the process would not have bumped into her vehicle, which would not have caused her to stop in the high speed lane and that would not have resulted in the volvo driver to change lanes and that would not have resulted in the deaths of people going in the opposite direction .

By that logic we will have to blame her parents for the accident for having the right mix of genes to produce an good-looking child... :)

Or perhaps blame the parents of the driver of the Mazda RX for bringing up a son who is so horny...

798905 2009-08-07 00:15:00 The girl was brought before the court and duly charged. She explained that it was not her that attracted the young man, but the new dress she had just bought that day.
The dress maker was brought to trial, and asked to justify herself. She thanked the court for the implied compliment and promised to adjust all her prices upward to harvest the publicity. However, she pointed out that it was not her dress as such that was at fault, but the extremely bright coloured fabric from which it had been made.
The Judge being a stern man ordered that the Dyer be taken and hung in his shop doorway and left there for three weeks as an example to all that road safety is to be observed at all times, The Bailiffs returned and revealed that the dyer was a tall man, but his shop doorway was unusually low, which presented difficulties of a practical nature in the execution.
The Judge pointed out that the sentence had been passed, and all paperwork complied with, so the sentence MUST be carried out.
The Bailiffs were ordered to go straightway out, seek and find a shorter Dyer, and hang him in plain view of the street so that all could see that Justice in the Kingdom was observed impartially at all times.
