OK so this is the 3rd thread like this I've started recently (The other being Win7 impressions & Family Pack pricing), but thats why its going in the Chat section, plus I know a fair few others here are interested.

Anyways, my $5 Chinwag SIM arrived today & was waiting for me when I got home. As soon as my wife saw the blue packaging she ripped it open and said "I'm liking these guys already, everything is nice and blue!".
Nice little package that contains the SIM and a "Please call 200 from your 2degrees mobile to get setup" style note, as well as info in customer care & number porting.

First thing I noticed when I whacked in the SIM was the 2degrees logo up the top of the screen. Excellent stuff!

I checked in the network providers and there was a choice of 3 now instead of just the previous two.

Once I disabled the Wifi to test the speeds of the internet etc, I noticed the nice little "E" up the top, standing for EDGE :D No more o for GPRS or 3G for ... well ... 3G :)

I fired up the maps app, it was uber-slow, but it worked

Though GPS was not terribly accurate

Before I changed back to Vodafone to test my normal speeds I thought I'd test a call. I must admit it did sound clearer on first impressions than the vodafone calls, maybe I'm just a little too optimistic though.

798342 2009-08-05 07:35:00 When you mentioned about the GPS being not accurate, could you based this with another? How was it with Voda? With GPS I am assuming you are using mobile data to access that?

Out of interest have you also tried Wifi for GPS, and how accurate has this been, such as at home with your router? Assuming that in NZ there are hardly enof hotspots to navigate around the metro.

Thanks!

798343 2009-08-05 07:37:00 With Voda its almost instantly spot on... I wont do a screenshot coz I'm at home ;) Chilling_Silence (9)
798344 2009-08-05 07:41:00 Quote from this page here (www.2degreesmobile.co.nz) about 3G coverage:

If you like technical stuff, you'll want to know that we run a 900MHz GSM network. Data is provided using both GPRS and EDGE technology. And it won't be long before we flick the switch on our 2100Mhz 3G/HSPA+ network.

798348 2009-08-06 05:17:00 Tried it again today, speeds were better / comarible to Voda elsewhere. I'm just in a "dead spot" for everything where I live :( Chilling_Silence (9)
