798093 2009-08-04 19:08:00 Title says it all really - KDE-4.3 has been released (kde.org). I'm compiling it now, will post back with first impressions when it's done (could be a while though - 260 packages to compile, some of which are rather large). Erayd (23)
798094 2009-08-04 21:32:00 Keen to hear your thoughts on the DE as a whole, as well as an upgrade from 4.2 :) Chilling_Silence (9)
798095 2009-08-04 21:38:00 Haha, I don't have any thoughts yet, I'm still on 4.2.4 - currently compiling package 162 of 260 for 4.3.0. I'll keep you posted. Erayd (23)
798096 2009-08-05 01:45:00 I'm really looking forward to 4.3. 4.2.4 has been excellent so far! Waiting now for 4.3 to hit debian-desktop.org repo so I can use it on debian stable base.

What distro are you currently using Erayd?

798097 2009-08-05 02:10:00 OK, after a bit of playing, KDE-4.3 looks awesome. On the surface, it's mostly the same as 4.2 (although there is a new theme), but there have been a lot of bugfixes.

Compiling was straightforward and hassle-free, with all 260 packages but one compiling perfectly. The one exception was steps, the physics simulator (which most people will never use).

Overall, I'd strongly advocate KDE-4.3 as an excellent desktop environment, and it has now reached a sufficient level of maturity to replace KDE-3.5.x as an everyday desktop.

I have been running KDE4 since 4.2.0 - all versions prior to this were quite frankly a useless bugfest.

What distro are you currently using Erayd?I'm running Gentoo (~amd64 x86_64-pc-linux-gnu).

If anybody has specific questions about it, feel free to ask.

We're talking about the latest stable release of KDE - a desktop environment for Linux.

Release announcement can be found here (kde.org).

798101 2009-08-05 02:36:00 Hopefully it will mean that Kubuntu will become a viable alternative to Ubuntu; nothing wrong with GNOME of course, but KDE is nicer visually IMHO nofam (9009)
