Err... in case you forgot, Labour were resoundly defeated at the last election.

In terms of the verdict, who was surprised? The stuff he was doing was blatantly corrupt, and he seemed to have done little to try to conceal it (at the time).

798051 2009-08-04 11:04:00 Not sure at this time at what the sentence will be. Max I think is seven years for each conviction.

And why did it take so long to get a trial anyway?

Justice should be swift.

This one does create a precedent as it is the first trial of a member of parliament.

798053 2009-08-04 18:40:00 Blame Helen - she delayed the case against him as she only had a majority of one and could not afford to loose him.
This case has cost us millions.
As Sweep says - Justice should be swift (or in NZ's case swifter)

798054 2009-08-04 19:52:00 He will only get a custodial sentence which he doesn't deserve being an ex minister it should be prison time gary67 (56)
798055 2009-08-04 20:43:00 He should be put away for about 20 years because he is NZs first corrupt MP then deported back to Samoa. prefect (6291)

Whatever the sentence is, it needs to send a strong message to politicians that corruption is not tolerated in this country.
