798113 2009-08-05 12:58:00 I'm going to install it on Kubuntu and see what it's like Agent_24 (57)
798114 2009-08-05 20:37:00 I'd try and avoid Kubuntu, for a myriad of reasons, but long story short they don't appear to do a terribly good job of integrating KDE compared to other distro's and you could quite possibly end up with a sour taste in the mouth because of it ;) Chilling_Silence (9)
798115 2009-08-06 00:39:00 My Linux experience is quite limited compared to my rather large Windows experience so an easily usable distro like Kubuntu is good for me

Of course I do try other things all the time and learn new stuff about Linux slowly

798116 2009-08-06 01:40:00 Seriously, Chill has a point - avoid Kubuntu. They have a track record of doing a very bad job of integrating KDE properly, and releasing broken packages - you'll most likely end up regretting it.

By all means pick something easy to use though - why not Fedora?

x2 - I'm opting for Redhat to cut my teeth on, largely because I use it at work for our Data Warehouse (also doubles as a LAMP server for our web-based BI app) - from talking to others, Fedora is stable & well supported.

798118 2009-08-06 07:07:00 By all means pick something easy to use though - why not Fedora?I haven't tried it, but the Fedora remix Omega (http://omega.dgplug.org/) looks good as it includes the multimedia codecs etc. It is produced by one of the well respected community managers at the Fedora forums.

Like Fedora, it has a default Gnome desktop environment, but you can install KDE. For Omega, this will mean downloading the packages. Fedora includes the option to install KDE on the installation media.

By fun I mean frustration and by frustration I mean it's not working :p
