| 881129 | 2010-04-30 01:04:00 | I am trying to rename the drive letter of my Maxtor backup drive. It was I: but has changed somehow to J:. If I try to change it back to I: it still retains the J: name as well. Other virtual drives have been created by various USB plug-in devices, but, as well, I cannot delete these. Where do I go from here? |

It won't. As Sweep mentioned, most versions of Windows will allow you to change the drive letter from disk management (Either right-click My Computer and go to Manage, or Control Panel -> Administrative Tools > Computer Management) | inphinity (7274) | ||

If you want to retain a drive letter for a given device, allocate a drive letter well away from the rest of the drives to stop them changing all the time. My main USB backup drive is U:, for example, so the backup scripts referring to U: work reliably. |
