882061 2010-05-03 09:57:00 can anybody tell me some free software which can upgrade my SD video files to HD so they look better h0b0_321 (15568)
882062 2010-05-03 10:41:00 Just use a video converter (eg Super, Xmedia Recode) and select the resolution to be either 1280*720 or 1920*1080.

This won't make your videos look much better though, it will just stretch them.

882063 2010-05-03 11:54:00 I think you've been watching too much C.S.I. Miami

You can upscale videos and get an small increase in quality but don't expect anything like what you see on TV shows ;)

882066 2010-05-03 23:01:00 An upscaling 1080p DVD player does have a better quality picture on an HDTV than just a standard DVD player even though the source is still just a DVD.

But you will never get the quality to match that of Blu-Ray

Depends on the blu-ray, Many of the older movies (and I'm not talking very old) seemed to have just been upscaled and slapped on the disc and look far to similar to what an upscaleing DVD player outputs. (Gladiator)

In fact I was looking at one that I'm pretty sure had just been transferred over at DVD resolution, on the back it said 1080 compatible.....:stare: (Lord of the Rings)

But then you stick on Avatar and the world shifts slightly.....
