800536 2009-08-23 10:27:00 Well, as a compromise to suit Chilling_Silence's restless gizzard when provoked, how about meeting in the foyer of Britomart Station and when the Guest Of Honour arrives we can ceremoniously march or slouch across to the hall of a thousand aromas? Possibly the function has not yet achieved sufficient seniority to demand that we be allowed to march with flags flying, drums beating and bayonets fixed, but we might ask if we can take a double push on the pedestrian lights button.
Well, how about a free turn on putting rubbish in the bin?

The Britomart foyer we could use (to allay the inevitable confusion) is the slightly raised portion just inside the main Q street doors, or at the top of the 2nd escalator for the trainees. It is handy to the ticket counter for them what needs tickets counted, but best of all it is free and it seldom rains in there. There's chairs too.

Hah. Can't scare us - we have Laura on our side, so there ;)

What? Britomart Station has public transport that arrives on time.

I can only think that seeing as some may be arriving by train and others may arrive by cycle and still others may arrive by using a bus and others may arrive by motor powered vehicles the chances that you all meet at the same place at the same time would be greater than the chance of me winning Lotto. For the record I don't even buy lotto tickets.

800537 2009-08-23 11:41:00 Every Britomart train arrives on time. Not necessarily the advertised one alas.
I may well go by ferry, it arrives only 80 metres or so from Britomart and seems really easy to park. A great joy of Winston's Wonderful Wrinkly cards.

I've stopped buying lotto tickets as I found the change in the odds was so minute as to be not worth the effort. If I'm lucky enough to win, then I'm lucky enough to find the winning ticket blowing down the street.

800538 2009-08-23 12:38:00 Beeswax is not paid for that, unfortunately.

Actually, we get paid AND get lunch :D

800539 2009-08-23 12:41:00 LUXURY ! R2x1 (4628)
800540 2009-08-23 15:01:00 Well, now that people are talking about countdowns ( this soon!) and R2x1 keeps saying "Aw shucks" stuff that makes me blush, it's only fair to enter my own countdown.
(The fact that I'll be able to post for the rest of the week - albeit from my sister's house in Avondale - is quite immaterial...)

So - this is my last burst before turning off the comp & finishing some of the hundred-odd tasks I told myself earlier I'd definitely do before leaving. Promises, promises...Why do I try to kid myself?

Departure from the house is 7.15am tomorrow. The bag is sort-of packed. The tricky do-I-take-that-or-not decisions are not yet made.
And as 7.15am might as well be the middle of the night for someone with my sleep habits - and the alarm clock has packed a sad - there is a 6am wake-up phone call booked.
On similar occasions, I've been known to simply stay up all night to solve that problem. Now I'm older, I'm supposed to be wiser. We'll see...

Forgive me for not defining my arrival time at the venue. I left my timetable collection behind last time. And I have four whole days to decide on train - or bus - or train..?
(Your Auckland MAXX thingy is simply marvellous, I've found. I do wish Dunedin had something similar)

Back later...

Hang on, why did they use the word "volunteer" then in the e-mail?

Oh right, fair enough.

Course-coordinators of various papers sent out e-mails requesting for help on that day, that's all.
