881976 2010-05-03 00:32:00 I'm looking at building up a new desktop pc for non-gaming purposes.

It will be mainly used for everyday purposes, plus watching movies and converting the odd DVD to ipod format. I may think about adding a blu-ray drive at some point. I may also add a Freeview HD card.
I also want this desktop pc to be as quiet as possible while in use.

I don't want to spend more than I need to (about $600-$800 as a rough guess). I already have an LCD monitor and hard drives.

The main thing is I'm having trouble finding a case I like.

I want a case that has an eSATA output at the front and preferably near the top.

The best I've found so far is a Coolermaster CM690 II for $198plus GST. Nice case but seems a bit large for my intended use.

Can anyone please recommend another case?

Any recommendations on components also appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

881977 2010-05-03 00:57:00 The case is simply a box that may look pretty or not.

It's the components in the box that count. Quiet then you want a case with good airflow, modular PSU for cable management and enough drive bays to suit. Are you considering water cooling if noise is an issue?

More info needed.

881980 2010-05-03 01:54:00 Take a look at Overclockers. They have some smaller options... pctek (84)
881981 2010-05-03 02:23:00 I have just ordered an Enermax 'Chakra' ECA3052-BS Mid tower case from Paradigm.

It has a 250mm side fan and a 120 mm rear fan, is supposed to be quiet, front eSata, usb, audio all at the top.
Sounds just what you are looking for

881982 2010-05-03 07:19:00 The CM 690 II is a VERY good case, but its not intended for a quiet setup as it has the capacity for 10 fans and at $200 thats 1/3 of your budget gone already lol.

If you wanna spend $200 on a quiet case i'd get the antec solo www.computerlounge.co.nz

But at your low budget its probably better to get a cheap $100 case

They are a nice case, good value for money. Maybe throw one of these in for a PSU?
