2010-05-06 00:55:00 | A freind has been looking at this laptop www.noelleeming.co.nz Retail on the website $1699, I rang and asked for this "today-only" deal for Fly Buys members, yessir the cost plus ten percent plus GST price is $1600. Ok margins are low - but if this is the case, I would be dropping laptops from the shelves for that sort of profit margin. Mind you, I felt a Tui moment coming on when he told me the price...or am I being to hard on NLs?

2010-05-06 01:08:00 | You mean the same one Dick Smiths has for $1299 Hope teh link works (www.dse.co.nz) - if not do a search for AS5741-434G50Mn | wainuitech (129) | |
2010-05-06 01:47:00 | Yeah I know I can find it other places much cheaper - and worse yet there is a sign outside the NL's up the road saying they will better any competitor's price...if $1600 is cost plus ten, they are going to be losing quite a few hundred on that one. Not worried about searching for it Wainui - the guy who wants to buy one asked me about the NL deal this morning, just making a point that really to me this is just another sale and not actually "cost plus ten" as they are claiming. But I'm always open to being wrong.

2010-05-06 02:12:00 | Seen same model with 1gig graphics Nvidia for $1499, just got to find where now! Lost the link... | FAB (6923) | |
2010-05-06 02:14:00 | Funny re brands. I have an Acer laptop that's a good 5 years old, been around the US for GPS navigating in the truck for three months, and then in backpack every day while sightseeing, it's still going strong and has zero faults. It's been used almost daily from new. Other people swear at Acer. I swear daily at my 12-month old HP laptop...never going to buy HP again, and seen so many consumer-line HP laptops motherboards die.

2010-05-06 02:16:00 | They make all their money in add on sales. Why do you think they are always so keen on extended waranty sales? | Alex B (15479) | |
2010-05-06 02:20:00 | I figured that, but I'd love to see the stats on just how many % of sales get the additional warranty... | FAB (6923) | |
2010-05-06 02:22:00 | It's an Acer. Therefore at whatever price it's ****. There are cheap acers, which are for home use, and business ones which are far better built. I have an acer, and have never had a problem with it. I think they are better built than dells.
