| 801272 | 2009-08-15 05:05:00 | a friends computer died ? not sure of the cause, however they have been told that its possible to take the old HDD out of the box, put it in a case and run it as an external drive to the new computer... seems a bit unlikely / pointless to me... whats the guts on this>? | agatornz (9898) | ||
| 801273 | 2009-08-15 05:22:00 | Yes. You can do that. Same with the DVD Drive too, if thats not dead. If its less than 40gb don't bother. If its more, stick it into another PC or buy a case and use as an external HD. Search on TradeMe for 3.5" cases. Check if the HD is SATA or IDE to decide which type of case you need. How old is it? | 801276 | 2009-08-15 12:55:00 | I wouldn't think a data server was any more or less reliable than a HDD in an external case. Certainly the HDD would be less expensive to run and maintain (far fewer BSODs with the HDD option :D).... |

| 801278 | 2009-08-15 18:28:00 | what i meant was offsite, so when your house burns down you can still get to it I thought the doctor told you that you still cannot have matches. Just three more sessions and you'll be allowed to handle sharp, pointy objects again but don't mess up your parole. :illogical |
