801438 2009-08-17 04:05:00 Not with the state of NZs broadband...... Ain't that the truth - Its all good and well when the internet is up, but it cant handle the loads now sometimes.

So if every thing went pear shaped - and the internet goes down for an hour or two - how many Thousands/ Millions of $$ would that cost companies -- No internet = No one could work :groan:

801439 2009-08-17 05:11:00 MS will never stop making windows for they are what they make transparent a pane in the ass they only last for so long until somebody breaks them and sooner or later they get smashed and remake a new lot.
maybe they should try doiuble glazing and see how tough they are before they get cracked.

801440 2009-08-17 05:22:00 It is possible that Linux will either eventually kill the M$ OS or at least significantly weaken it's monopoly.

I think alot of that would come down to game developers, if they released games for linux and windows then i think a fairly big chunk of intensive computer users would switch to linux

801441 2009-08-18 04:30:00 it all comes down to if hardware manufacturers will start making drivers for all open source operating systems. if this happens then it's see you later windows. batmann (15177)
801442 2009-08-18 05:04:00 Linux has pretty decent hardware support as it is, certainly a lot better than most versions of Windows.

I don't actually want to see Linux ever become mainstream as I fear then the same people who target Windows users will come after Linux as well.

The only reason everyone tries to scam Windows users is that it's got the biggest market share, so the returns are higher than anything else.

801443 2009-08-19 04:16:00 I agree with HueyBot, once games and other 'power' softwares support Linux OSs, MS will lose a lot of customers. sammo450 (13626)

I disagree....this may be the case with most "Power" users, but for most of the current end users "change" is the worst thing. Changing from XP to Vista is already a challenge for most, now you get them to change to a new OS?

Same with IE, many browsers are better in so many ways, but because people just stick to what "just works" and what they're used to, so they don't bother trying other browsers.

It might happen eventually, but it would take a very long time for people to fully adapt...

801445 2009-08-19 09:43:00 yeah blam6 is kinda right ... Its such a scary thought for people to change Browsers, let alone OS's ..

I *was* a happy linux convert, and would stick with XP wherever I had to use Windows, but I must admit that with the Homegroup sharing, the speed improvements, and a myriad of other *little* improvements, Im a Win7 convert ;)

Now Im desperate for Linux to convert me back :D

Agent_24, I think you'll find that even though more people may eventually "target" Linux as it were, because of its design from the ground up with security more in-mind, it'll never be as susceptible to viruses / spyware etc as Windows is.
