883854 2010-05-11 08:42:00 Help please

I am need some advice on what type of TV card and software i need to install in/on my computer to get freeview using a sky dish. Want to be able to watch one Chanel and record the other or record both.

Can you get a tv card to take a satellite and UHF aerial so you can get freeview HD?

Also do i need a separate graphics card, currently i am just using the on board graphics card on my motherboard?

I am currently running Windows 7 Ultimate and Linux, was thinking of using either MYTH PC for Linux or media PC for win 7.

Any suggestions?

883855 2010-05-11 08:53:00 Satellite doesnt support HD.Looks like the Hauppage HVR2200 has a dual tuner. Dont know if it uses satellite tho. But hopefully Myth works with it. Because from what I've read Hauppage's program isnt that great Speedy Gonzales (78)
883856 2010-05-11 09:30:00 Actually I have been wondering this myself .... But just not from a dish. We have a HD TV with inbuilt freeview in a room but I would like to get it on my computer too (just using UHF). I don't need anything flash or any mod cons. What would you recommend? 883857 2010-05-11 09:43:00 Before you decide to get one (PCI or USB). What are the specs of your system? Speedy Gonzales (78)
883858 2010-05-11 09:59:00 Media Center works really well with Freeview HD, this can depend on the specs of the pc and if your doing hardware or software decoding. Alex B (15479)
883859 2010-05-11 10:10:00 I wanting PCIe card tv card

Computer Specs

AMD Phenom X4 955 3.3ghz
Gigabyte MA785GMT-UD2H Motherboard
1TB HD
Win7 Ultimate 64bit version

As for hardware or software decoding not sure?

I can use either a dish or UHF we have both, so if i can use both on the same card it would be good!

883860 2010-05-11 10:15:00 the HVR2200 is a dual DVB-T and dual analogue PCI Express tuner card.

Most people don't worry about the analoge side of it (but i think it can be used with a sky decoder - not i say decoder not dish).

This is a DVB-T (Freeview|HD) card. It requires a UHF aerial and will not work with a satellite dish (DVB-S).

Easiest way to get going is Windows 7 Media Center. It has the codecs required to get freeview|HD working. Most other software (Media portal, GBPVR etc) require these special codecs - monograam for sound, and a Hardware accelerating H.264 decoder (the most common ones are PowerDVD 8 and Total Media Arcsoft encoder).

I'd definitely recommend the Windows 7 route for simplicity.

883861 2010-05-11 10:18:00 One of these may work (www.hauppauge.com) the bottom ones. Dont know if they'll work in NZ (where it says Europe). You'll have to ask in the shop. Yup, whatever tuner SHOULD work in MC in Windows 7 (but not in Vista, if youre using Vista). Speedy Gonzales (78)
883862 2010-05-11 22:24:00 There is also the Hauppauge Nova T 500
It has dual DVB-T tuners. It is only PCI though.

883863 2010-05-27 11:38:00 Hi guys, have had a read but still cant find an answer I understand fully.

My PC Specs are:
Intel i5 Processor 2.67
Windows 7 Ultimate
3TB HDD
4GB RAM
HD Monitor
ATI HD5850 video card

I have no TV tuner card at the moment, but want to find out what I exactly need before buying one. Is it possible to buy a TV Tuner card that will allow me to watch Freeview HD on my pc and allow me to rewind etc etc record?

Appreciate any answers in detail, also explanation for someone who has no experience in this. What needs to be done. Do i need a receiver? How to connect? and so on. I have a UHF antenna and a SKY dish on my roof. ALso, does this in any way mean I can possibly also get sky on my pc? I have a decoder in my main hall. But should I want to get it on the pc as well? Possible?
