883669 2010-05-11 01:15:00 It does not matter if it is flashing red or steady red, the modem has failred and she will need a new one. Safari (3993)
883670 2010-05-11 01:43:00 I have an RTA1320, the red light comes on when it does the self-check at startup and turns off if it passes.

If the red light stays on it certainly sounds like something is faulty

883671 2010-05-11 01:53:00 I've been relying on the info I was given over the phone. She says the light is flashing. Of course if it never stops flashing, presumably it is never completing the self-test, which would certainly seem to indicate a fault. As I said, she has a tech from Computer Troubleshooters calling, and I should get feedback after that. Tony (4941)
883672 2010-05-13 20:49:00 Recently had exact same problem. Same modem same symptoms. Net techie sold me a new modem. Thought I'd just replace power cable first....and that fixed it. Now using new modem for warranty reasons and have a perfectly good albeit well used back up modem.. bernz (14430)
883673 2010-05-13 21:08:00 I'm waiting to hear back. I'll update when I get more info. Tony (4941)
883674 2010-05-13 21:55:00 C'mon, the suspense is getting to us :D Chilling_Silence (9)
883675 2010-05-13 22:08:00 C'mon, the suspense is getting to us :DMe too. The only report I have had is that the techo took the whole machine away saying it couldn't communicate with the router (apparently). I would have thought that if the router was stuffed, that was only to be expected. Tony (4941)
883676 2010-05-13 23:51:00 I assume the technician tested the router as working somehow, if he didn't, what he did makes no sense... Agent_24 (57)
883677 2010-05-14 02:35:00 I assume the technician tested the router as working somehow, if he didn't, what he did makes no sense...My point exactly... Tony (4941)
883678 2010-05-17 05:44:00 Well, my SeniorNet friend has her PC back and a new modem. Her knowledge is pretty minimal, so she wasn't very well able to relate what Computer Troubleshooters told her, but I get the distinct impression they took it away, tried testing it with old modem, which wouldn't work, so they tried a new modem, and bingo! - it all sprung into life - just like we all predicted.

I don't want to diss Computer Troubleshooters as an organisation, but I have to say I am not hugely impressed with the Henderson franchise.

Anyway, she's now back in action - thanks to everyone for their help and advice.
