My brother has cellphone Internet from Vodaphone, for only 10 bucks per month. Admitedly his bandwidth allocation is small, but when he gets his new phone he'll be getting speeds as good or better than mine, eg 5Mb/s download, 2 Mb/s up.

802276 2009-08-19 04:46:00 I am only getting 2188.2Kbits/sec or 273.5Kbytes/sec and I am complaining. The problem here is that I have lousy copper in the ground and Verizon won't fix it.

Out of 4-pair, I have 1-leg of 1-pair that will hold a ring and 1-leg of a different pair that will hold a ring for about 5 times then it goes to ground. The other legs and pairs are all dead.

They won't even CONSIDER FIOS here now that they have surveyed the area and they say this park is on short notice anyway. I'd LOVE to have the 20M+ FIOS service!

802277 2009-08-19 05:03:00 Try this if you want: www2.verizon.net SurferJoe46 (51)
802278 2009-08-19 05:13:00 Well, 2mbit for me, not too bad for going half way around the world, pretty much identical speeds to what you are getting over there.

Joe, go to www.speedtest.net and do a test to Auckland or Wellington, post the results back here. I'd be interested to see what kind of speeds you are getting to NZ. :)

802279 2009-08-19 05:58:00 I dood it!

First, since I am a Vewrizon customer it made me run to San Diego - which they said is mistakenly only 50 miles away - doh! It's over 100!

Anyway, to San Diego----------down=2 . 87 MB/s, up=0 . 58 MB/s, ping =127ms

Then to ChCh I got ------------down=2 . 48 MB/s, up=0 . 58 MB/s, ping=190ms

802280 2009-08-19 06:00:00 Crikey, I do feel a little sorry for you Joe, your local speeds are pretty much the same as international, and to little ol' NZ of all places!

Thumbs down to Verizon.
