883284 2010-05-08 23:41:00 This refers to my last thread 'Genral Knowledge' where I was given so much info and choices especially one from MikebartNZ. I have to say the PCLinuxOS2010 is incredibly beautiful! What a fanstastic work!

I was able to install it on to the 2nd HD-D.
Now:
a. How do I switch in between Vista & PCLiOS.
Do I have to boot from BIOS every time I do?
b. How do I go to use docs, other softwares etc currently in the 1st HD-C?
Your support is again so very much solicited and appreciated. Thanks guys.

883285 2010-05-08 23:55:00 I have found some material for reading from a Thread of 21/8/2009 in answer to my Qa. Thanks. namboothiri (14469)
883286 2010-05-08 23:58:00 No it should bring up a menu so you can select either Speedy Gonzales (78)
883287 2010-05-09 00:20:00 Hi Speedy, after installing I restarted the PC and I think, by default, it went to run Vista. Didn't give an option. A while ago, when I had Ubuntu9 on the same C Drive, the PC used to bring up a black screen with an option to which OS. So.... namboothiri (14469)
883288 2010-05-09 00:39:00 Is PCLinuxOS on a separate drive?
Or partition?
It should have installed the GRUB bootloader
which is the black screen you refer to
(although in this case it would not be black).
If you have installed Linux on a separate drive
the simplest way to approach things is to have Linux
as the primary then Windows as secondary.
This should allow GRUB to appear but it might require
some reconfiguring to allow the dual boot.

883289 2010-05-09 04:57:00 Hi Dave, yes, PCLOS is on a spearate drive with no partition created. I set the D Dr as primary in BIOS to boot and C as the 3rd, the 2nd being DVD Dr. So am I in the right track eventhough Linux is not turning up? Thanks. namboothiri (14469)
883290 2010-05-09 06:13:00 Can you boot to the PCLinuxOS installation from BIOS?

If you boot to the Linux partition it should give the GRUB
screen first, does it?

If so, you should be able from PCLinuxOS to update GRUB
from Start(in the bottom left corner)>System>Configuration>Boot and Init>Redo MBR
It will ask for your password then the GRUB updater should detect
your Windows installation and you take it from there.
If that fails then a manual editing of GRUBs Menu.lst
may be needed.

883291 2010-05-10 00:47:00 Hi Dave, I couldn't boot from BIOS eventhough I changed bootble options a few times up and down. At one stage, I got:GRUB loading stage 1.5 Pls wait followed by this: ERROR 17

Vista runs as normal. If there is not much hope, should I re-install and take care to get GRUB up and running although I have no idea how that can be achieved in the process. Thanks.

883292 2010-05-10 01:01:00 Error 17 indicates the partition could not be mounted.
You could try booting to the PCLinuxOS CD
and then redoing the MBR as in my previous post.
I would have the boot priority set to
CD first, Linux next. don't worry about
the Windows drive, if GRUB is configured
correctly it will chainload Windows for you

883293 2010-05-10 01:04:00 OK. I'll and see how it goes. Thanks. namboothiri (14469)
