I wonder if the tv companies realise how many people ain't watching the box nowadays. I only watch the movie channels. I don't even bother trying to watch the news anymore. Ads ads ads ads ads |

Nothing wrong with miss nz/world universe completions screening on tv. When I was a young fella we would get a few crates of beer in and watch them. Although the comments were not always pc. Miss Venezuela was always a stunner. |

| 803153 | 2009-08-21 19:34:00 | Anyone knows whether Miss Universe 2009 will be shown on TV in NZ sometime? Where and when? Thanks Earlier this year the Miss World Pageant was on TV2 I believe, in the early morning hours, 2 or 3 AM. The timing is indicative of how the popularity of beauty pageants has declined. Yes, I did record it and watched it with SWMBO. We used the FFWD button and mainly watched the cultural presentations. The event was held in South Africa and the ethnic singing and dancing was a joy to watch, also the beautiful SA panoramic scenery. To answer the inevitable: The swimsuit event was there but it was no big deal, maybe it is my age, LOL. What I found annoying was the brevity of seeing each woman; there were around 150 contestants so the camera would flick from one to another every half a second or so it seemed. Some of the women certainly did not fit the stereotype of the "dumb bimbo" but were intelligent, talented, humanitarian and with personalities that matched their physical beauty - but little time was given to these women due to the number of other contestants. These events are politically biased, imho (along with events like the Nobel Prizes and Academy Awards). The host country is sure to get a contestant in the top 5, and other top contenders reflect choices that will appease those in the world wide viewing audience. |

A key question is do less people watch tv because of the crap that is on or is it that people watch less tv so they can only to put crap on ? |
