| 802202 | 2009-08-18 07:28:00 | I'm doing a 'growl'. When I bought my last lappy (about 3 years ago) the OS was preloaded. I was able to buy a disk with XP Pro from Microsoft at about $49.00. Now I have bought another lappy with Vista Home Premium preloaded, and now find that I am expected to pay the full price of over $300 to get the disk with the OS on it! That's more than inflation.:2cents: Reading further down the page - I see comments by Lakewoodlady on a similar topic. Sorry, I didn't mean to divert traffic away from you post. :( I think our 'growls' are essentially the same, but didn't expect to be asked THAT much for the backup OS on a disk. |

The manufacture can sell you the correct recovery DVD's for your Laptop. if you got a Vista from MS - it would only be the OS - No Drivers /programs included with the original laptop. What make is the laptop - there is ways to make your Own Install DVD -a bit of time and a DVD. All you need is Vlite (http://www.vlite.net/) - and the I386 folder that should be on the C: drive. |

That almost sounds like a weekend project.:clap I have made 3 recovery disks, as part of what is on the lappy. But that will include all the rubbish that Toshiba includes. :( |

When the laptops were bought I guess you paid $x and this included the hardware and software did it not? How much did you pay and what did you pay for the sometimes useless software like Nortons that came with the laptop? |

| 802206 | 2009-08-18 09:18:00 | Well, possibly the XP came with (relatively) few bugs and far less crud than this Whizzy Vitsa stuff. "It costs a lot to look this cheap". |

Yep according to Dolly Parton it really does cost a lot to look that cheap, saw an interview with her a while ago and that's exactly what she said :yuck: |

But that will include all the rubbish that Toshiba includes. :( So get a copy of the O/S disk from someone, the COA is what matters. Then download all the drivers (if they aren't on the HDD) and put them somewhere safe too. Voila, instant disks without all the rubbish. |

| 802211 | 2009-08-18 22:53:00 | If the PC needs recovering for any reason you can use the disks you have made and then uninstall the applications not used. Once done make an image of the hard drive with all drivers and applications. And of course back up or copy important data like favourites, address books, emails if you want to keep them and any other data you can't replace like photos for example. Like you are out and get the perfect photo but can you get exactly the same again. Some events happen once in a lifetime and can't be recreated even if you get all the subjects on the same stage as it were. |
