| 804030 | 2009-08-24 23:45:00 | I had a situation where I was going to store a utility trailer at a very good friend's home for my move to the new house . I called him on Sunday (yesterday) to make sure that he remembered that I would need a good chunk of his driveway for space - but he never answered the phone from where I was going to get the trailer . I decided that he was prolly busy with dinner with some other friends (his wife passed away 6-7 years ago) - so I didn't bother and knew that I'd get the trailer next time . I'd have time yet . I called him this AM to check if he was OK - no answer . My wife and I drove over to his place - the gate's locked - I hopped over while my wife called his phone from her cell - again, no answer . I pounded on his door, front door, side door, back door . No answer . I now punched the back door out with my fists and forced the door open by hand and feet - I don't remember . Then the smell hit me - death . He was dead a couple of days . He was very bloated - very black - and looked like he was asleep in his bed . My wife and I had been the last people to see him on Friday when we all went out to dinner . He and I go back to mid-1968 as Jehovah's Witnesses - kinda my spiritual godfather if you will . and have been fast friends since then . He was 85, 86 this September - and feisty as all get out . I've got a handle on all this, but it's kinda soon right after my dad's death just 14 days ago . August is gonna be another month I don't like . |
