Indeed there were, but probably not settled and intermarried in the numbers as suggested in the Merlin series. Neither are there today afaik traces of those soldiers in the remaining Celtic areas (excluding Swansea :) ), though it would be interesting to find out. The Romans certainly did have Africans in their army. Their army was mainly made up of 'foreign' recruits. There were just not enough Roman born citizens to make up the manpower.	Terry Porritt (14)
