If you are an XT customer, you will need to top-up your mobile at least once every 6 months. Your air time credit has an expire date of 6 months from the date it was applied to your mobile connection. :) |

I think we might go with the Vodaphone monthly contract Easy 20 for $16.95 as she won't ever have to worry about topping up or paying a bill (if we can put it on Direct Debit). |

| 804275 | 2009-08-27 23:00:00 | Gee for a computer forum there are a couple of Luddites on here ! Is that Trev and I who both live in Napier - land of the Luddites? ;) In reality I love most new technology - as an older bloke who quite often stuggles to understand it. To be in business or a service industry today must be wonderful with the mobile phones and computers to speed up communications and calculations. Mobile phones are incredible things. My mind boggles when I think back to the 1950's when my father only getting a phone connection in New Lynn because of his need for one with his job. It took 3 months to get it from the date of his company's application. A private line had up to a years wait. Now, I can ring my daughter who is in a park in Sydney after watching the fireworks on the harbour bridge, on New Years Eve, just to wish her a happy New Year. A necessity? No! A luxury, yes! Too much of our modern life is habit, and habits quite often cost. My wife tells me of a staff member rolling up to work complaining that she doesn't know how she is going to pay her excessively high power bill this month - as she slurps away at her daily $3.50 takeaway coffee. They spend heaps on phone plans just so they can ring home and say they are just about 5 minutes away and the traffic is heavy on the expressway....... The kids on my school run who sit there, heads down texting furiously as I drive them home. The kids there that are at their computers in the classrooms listening to music on their players through headphones...... and so on ad infinitum. Like I said, from my perspective, I really can't see an intelligent use for a cellphone.:2cents: Ken the Luddite ;) |

People cant listen to music on buses or on computers? Sorry, forgot about emergencies. Work is a business use which I mentioned. Most kids have phones with radio function or MP3 capability. Coffee was about habits costing. A large % of phone use is a developed habit. Ken :banana |

| 804279 | 2009-08-28 00:56:00 | When I was a kid we lived on a farm about 5km outside of Waipukurau. Our phone was on a party line ie we shared a phone line with up to about 6 other users. If we wanted to make a phone call we had to pick up the phone piece and say working to make sure no one else was using it. If there was we had to wait until they had finished before we made our call. If we wanted to make a toll call say to Hastings we had to book it in at a certain time or if we didn't we would have to wait up to about half an hour for a connection after we rang Hastings. :) |

Yes, I know what you mean, I have always hated Vodaphone even though I was with them till I just joined 2 degrees . Their website sucks too . You can never find anything . I just want the easiest thing for my mum . I suppose we could go prepay and load it up with heaps of credit . |
