804093 2009-08-26 04:27:00 I wouldn't worry too much about how many NCEA credits you have or don't have - they are only useful for getting you into tertiary courses if you don't have any work experience. Employers won't care (most won't even understand the NCEA system).

The trick is to find the niche that you enjoy and do well in and knuckle down and work hard. Things will tend to fall into your lap if you follow this advice.

It's true what they say: "The harder you work, the luckier you are."

804094 2009-08-26 05:38:00 If you have good grades, you can do some first year uni courses while still in high school instead of year 13 subjects. The good thing is you won't have to pay the fees (around several hundred) if you're still in high school.

I did two first year computer science courses while still in high school, so I could start second year computer courses in my first real year of uni. So it basically saves a year's worth of university tuition costs.
If you're going the polytech route, there might be something similar.

What sort of job do you want to be doing long-term? You might want to keep your options open for further study by getting university entrance now, if you think you might end up going to a university in the next few years (or need a certain number of NCEA Level 2 credits to get into a particular course/diploma/certificate course).

With those credit levels, there's no way he would get UE based on grades - he'd either need discretionary entrance, or to wait until he's old enough for automatic entry.

No - the point is that you learn stuff, not just get the credits.

804099 2009-08-26 11:52:00 It is vitally important to complete secondary schools - without a roof the kids get wet a lot. R2x1 (4628)
804100 2009-08-26 23:34:00 A lot of kids these days are pretty 'wet' anyway... :D johcar (6283)
