And bear in mind Mrs. Murphy's Law : - "Murphy is an optimist."

803656 2009-08-24 08:35:00 Most European and North American houses have the toilet in the bathroom, I'm not against it. What I am against is having a separate toilet without a hand-washing facility in the same room so that you don't have to touch the door handle, light switch with dirty hands the same as everyone else already has spreading germs. gary67 (56)

Agreed - you can actually get toilet cisterns now with handbasins built in - a great space saver, and using the grey water to flush is ecologically friendly too!!

803658 2009-08-24 10:03:00 Gross .

I cannot figure why people put toilets in bathrooms . It's disgusting and unhygienic .

Anyway, you are supposed to have a permit because its being moved around the house, not just amended in it's existing location .

There was a Myth Busters episode on that very subject - nothing unhygenic about it, well no more unhygenic than your kitchen anyway .

Just added a bathroom to my place, but because I added three bedrooms and a few other rooms as well, can't be sure how much it cost for that one room . One thing for sure, don't assume that the quote is all it will cost, variations alone have cost an extra fifty grand on this project, albiet some were always going to be incurred like painting costs . What really gets me is the extras to comply with Greenie policies, for example you have to have an Eco fire even if you want a real one .

But a bathroom should be possible for under $30 grand all up, I know someone who just did one for $15 grand but it was to do up an exisiting one .

803659 2009-08-24 10:04:00 My advice as far as plumbers go is, ask around. Word of mouth & referrals are the best way to go. As far as tradesmen go, plumbers are the roughest & most unreliable of the lot Phil B (648)

Yeah I'm tentatively budgeting $10k without knowing the in & outs of the plumbing - and that's getting shower/toilet/gib/tiles/taps/paint etc etc at cost+GST and doing a bit myself.

Plumbers are way, way back in that race.

A friend of mine who was an insurance assessor once remarked that it was a long time since a natural disaster caused as much damage as the painters who came in after it. He mentioned something about Vesuvius.

Apparently common garden bathroom. Have you seen the price of normal bathroom fittings lately? Mine cost 4 grand just for the basics, and that's not to put them in.

803664 2009-08-24 20:19:00 How do you figure that? It's no more or less unhygienic than a separate toilet if you clean it!

Depends whether you put the lid down or not when you flush .
Never mind Myth Busters, I watched a health doco where they tested these peoples toothbrushes and sink taps and walls etc and there were little particles everywhere . They had flushed with the lid up .

I don't care, it's still gross .
And nothing worse than someone in the shower and someone else needs the loo .

My place had 2 - one out by itself near the laundry in the outer part of the house, and one in the bathroom .

I removed the bathroom loo and sold it on TM .

I like it away from the rest of the house for obvious reasons .
