2010-05-12 09:52:00 | How long does it take to get a HD for use after a partition or resizing. I have a problem. Resized a 320GB DH into 4. But the PC has been running some configurations since the last more than 24 hrs non stop. It started with some 5 digits at 25+ and now it is at 6 digits. | namboothiri (14469) | |
2010-05-12 09:54:00 | What are you using to resize it? | KarameaDave (15222) | |
2010-05-12 11:16:00 | Did you try to partition all four at once or one at a time ? | wainuitech (129) | |

2010-05-12 21:44:00 | I use Partition Magic, & WinXP, and have had no problems, I have 6 partitions and a recent resize of two took less than an hour. I can't be precise becaus soon afer it started to process we went out. | Brucem (8688) | |
2010-05-13 21:18:00 | Hi sorry for being late. I use Vista & the new Ubuntu. The HD was simply resized to equal segments. Yes, I did all of them in one go. Purpose was to install other OS in separate partitions along with Vista. This could be wrong but I was experimenting. I haven't got anywhere yet. Thanks. | namboothiri (14469) | |
2010-05-13 21:25:00 | Empty drive? If you have a drive of a single partition, and a lot of data on it, and you try to repartition it, there will be a lot of work moving the data around (and the first partition will need to be large enough to store it all), though 24 hours is ridiculous. Even with close to 1TB of data to juggle I would expect it to be no more than a couple of hours. Changing partitions on empty drives or unpartitioned areas of a drive should take only seconds.

2010-05-13 22:20:00 | Thanks Inphinity. However, I terminated the 'ridiculous' process and nothing went wrong later. Ironically, I used GParted Live to do it. No doubt, I might have done something wrong. | namboothiri (14469) | |
